Spring Clean Up Checklist For Your Yard

March 20th marks the first day of the Spring, even though it may not feel like it yet from the weather. Spring is the time when life returns to the deciduous trees and shrubs around us, lawns regain their vibrant green, and flowers begin to show off their glorious color. To fully enjoy your garden this spring season, it is important to perform a spring clean up of your landscape to clear the winter coat of leaves and debris. Here is our checklist of recommended tasks to perform.

Check your tools
Performing an inspection of all your lawn and garden tools for any rusting, splintering or missing items, will avoid any injuries or surprises when you are in the middle of your to-do list. Just like our professional crew does, check your inventory of tools to make sure they are in good working order and replace any that are showing signs of damage. Now is a great time to stock up on tools before they are sold out!

Crabgrass Prevention
Prevent crabgrass growth by applying your pre-emergent as early as March. This will cover any crabgrass germination for up to 90 days!

Clean Up Debris
With the snow melted and warmer temps on the horizon, now is a great time to begin clearing the leaves and debris on your lawn from the fall and winter. Removing this litter will help make your lawn healthier and prevent damaging conditions to your yard like fungus or bare spots in your lawn requiring reseeding.

Perfect Time To Prune
Pruning allows for proper airflow for your plants, shrubs, and trees. It prolongs the life of your plants as well. If you are unsure of how to properly prune your trees and shrubs, give us a call and we would be happy to perform this service for you.

Mow and Seed Your Lawn
We usually recommend applying seed to your lawn in the fall but if you didn’t get to it in the fall, spring is a great time too. Especially for bare areas or spots being overrun by weeds. Once you have mowed your lawn for the first time this spring, applying seed can help fill in those patches and fight off weed growth.
